I like clothes that live. Clothes that age with dignity and elegance. A piece of clothing is designed to be of service, to accompany the wearer. It should emphasise a personality, not overpower it. The worst transgression of taste is uniformity.” —Monsieur Ossendrijver, Lanvin Homme’s Creative Director

Material, intuition, emotion… For Lucas Ossendrijver, who in 2016 will be celebrating ten years as head of men’s ready-to-wear at Lanvin, the studio is first and foremost a laboratory where each collection redefines a style inspired by new gestures, new techniques and new fabrics —including cashmere, kangaroo, alpac and matt python.

Born 31st January 1970, Lucas Ossendrijver, Aquarius, grew up near Utrecht in the Dutch countryside amongst “trees, horses, stags…” . He sketches little but can sew and cut and describes himself as a technician first and foremost, always and forever faithful to the idea of proportions and style.

In 2016 his passion remains unfailing, nourished by research in shapes, materials and details.

The Lanvin man who he describes as “more confident, calmer, more focused” has imposed his signature and his look, recognisable amongst all these lean and oversized combinations, these “touches” that make a difference, right down to the iconic sneakers and their infinite variations.

Ossendrijver re-imagines the look of this man every season, combining impeccably cut suits and tailoring traditions with volumes and details borrowed from sportswear: “A definite shape, with the smallest shoulders possible, a flexible construction but never unstructured…”
