CYBORG: THE INSPIRATION BEHIND GUCCI

For the Autumn/Winter 2018-2019 collection, Gucci is inspired by a key element: The Cyborg

What can we consider abnormal? The challenge of imposing a category on a subject indicating whether it is normal or abnormal depends solely on the perception of which it is seen. Identity is not a natural fact nor a predefined category that can be imposed. It is a cultural construction that constantly evolves.

The subjectivities embodied by Gucci’s “pluriversifiers” evolve in this field, which is both ethical and political. It allows us to get out of the standardized box and allows us to transgress the predefined categorizations. What seems strange acquires a new meaning. The brave affirmation of oneself and one’s own uniqueness.

The collection goes further in the form of a true Cyborg Manifesto (D. J. Haraway) that celebrates the hybrid in a metaphorical way, as a character capable of overcoming dualisms and identity dichotomies. This character expresses multiple and changing identities that transgress normative discipline. Hybrid identities, in the process, based on multi-affiliations.
