The cave paintings of the Lascaux cave have inspired several contemporary artists, as they refer us to the beginning of humanity and nature, and the relationship they have with art. In 1951, Christian Dior appropriated of rock paintings, using them in prints for their line Ovale, in which it alludes to primitive feminine representations like the Venus. This extravagant and ancient femininity, linked to the magic of nature, served as inspiration for the first collection of Maria Grazia Chuiri, the Artistic Director of the Dior female collections. It is a female representation of wild spirit.

Constantly, Maria Grazia Chiuri is looking for new ways to adopt the heritage of Dior. This is why she chooses the contrast of the almost golden ocher and the blacks, as if they left the fur of the prehistoric wolves for their silk jacquards. She also uses sequined embroidery in earth tones. Maria Grazia appropriate the skill of Dior’s workshops, reinventing them to tell their  story. A history that alters proportions and lengths for contemporary landscape, where the sport mixes with the Haute Couture, and  where tradition becomes ornamental abstraction and where the materials come to change their state.

The designer has also brought a pop interpretation with the use of Tarots giving a feminist reinvention in order to give new life to art Divine of Dior. The idea that the smell of a person is the expression of their soul can be found in the feminine vision of an emblematic perfume such as Eau Sauvage. The imprint of this wild and erratic figure restores the woman in her place as the center of the world.
