Issey Miyake’s design team had been to Iceland and it had proved restorative; with his spring collection he sought to explore memory.Throughout the ages, our planet has formed the great mysteries of nature. The memories of the landscapes of Iceland, seen through the lens of the creative team have become inspiration.Large faults through a rugged landscape, volcanic rocks covered with moss sparkling under the rays of the sun and crystalline glaciers that stretch as far as the eye can see.

The looks, draped in panels round the body suggested real substance rather than some of the floaty, more ephemeral looks Miyake has favoured in the past. Icelandic scenes appeared elsewhere, mossy igneous rocks and ice blue glaciers abstracted via the heat treated fabrics.

For the presentation three dancers opened the show at the Grand Palais, improvising languorous stretching movements in Miyake’s signature Steam Stretch fabric, becoming enveloped in the seams and dramatically running and jumping as they exploded from them.
