Paris Social Diary: I found very particular and valid to make a difference, as you say, between being a Photographer and a Fashion Photographer. How would you describe each? Why did you make this difference?

Giampaolo Sgura: Being a photographer can include many ways of clicking your camera. It can be for landscape, reportage, art, etc. But for fashion photography you need to have a different sensitivity and a very strong vision for Fashion.

When I create ideas for my editorial I never think at the photography at first thing, that it’s always secondary. I think Fashion First!

Paris Social Diary: Does your perception of yourself have changed throughout the years? How does it feel being Giampaolo Sgura today?

Giampaolo Sgura: I changed , I evolved with the same speed as fashion evolved, you need to be updated and get the rythm of the times. But I am always myself.

Paris Social Diary: What does it mean the beginning of the year 2016 in your own career as a fashion photography/artist?

Giampaolo Sgura: It means that Fashion is changing so fast and it also means that there are many different things in magazines and over the internet.

There is a big revolution in fashion houses.

This business manipulate creative people and throw them out of the games in few a seasons.

Everybody can be cool today and forgotten tomorrow, there is no respect at all. I think 2015 and 2016 will be remembered as the chaos year in the Editorial world since they are loosing their power; and Social Media and Web are becoming dominant.

Paris Social Diary:  The Fashion Show” photoshoot, for many of us, is one the most Iconic fashion editioals in these days, Which Top three elements resumes and describes best the type of photography you produce?

When I shoot editorial I always relate to readers that are not in the business and that buy the magazine.

That’s why I wanted to create a little story about what happens behind the scenes of the fashion week: the craziness of the casting, rehearsals, backstage, photoshoot etc…..but with an editorial point of view..i am very happy of what we created.

Paris Social Diary: Does your home city Apulia inspire you still in a way in your everyday life or in your work?

Giampaolo Sgura: My roots keep me grounded and humble. I come from a very simple family of farmer and olive oil merchants. So completely away from my world today, but still relate to them for the values they teached me: respect and integrity.

That’s why i always say that “I prefer to be remembered in the future as a good person rather then a good photographer” this means a lot to me.

Paris Social Diary: Now that you have worked with almost everybody on the industry, how does it feel working with friends (models, designers, make up artists)?

Giampaolo Sgura: Actually I haven’t worked with everybody in the industry. My dreams are still in the sky. After working and connecting with some of these people we become friends and get closer
so we can create better job. these are the best team, like i do with Anna Dello Russo and Christiane Arp or Miguel Arnau.
