The Japanese designer, ISSEY MIYAKe is proud to announce the opening of its first flagship boutique in Italy, Milan, in the heart of Palazzo Reina, a historic building in the Quadrilatero area, Via Bagutta 12. Spread over the main floors of the Palazzo, with a surface area of approximately 500m2, this is the first time that an ISSEY MIYAKE boutique has been established in an historic building.

“Design is an act of discovery, making things, making reality, freedom, innovation.
Design is work that brings people joy. For me Milano is already the city of all creativity. I am proud to be part of it. ” -Issey Miyake

Tokujin Yoshioka was in charge of the interior design of the shop.

“A unique aesthetic is created when the historical landscape of the city meets the futuristic interior panels by expressing the passage of time. What attracts us is a past enriched as much as the layers of history by an opaque and undeveloped future. The boutique is housed in a 19th century building a location near Via Montenapoleone, which is famous for its historic architecture and symbol of refinement. This contrast between past and future is found in the juxtaposition of colored aluminum and the age of the walls. Floating sculptures in rounded aluminum are colored like pieces of tinted fabrics. Blue, orange and green symbolize the energy of nature, while playing on the translucent aspect. The essence of design in harmony with technology and craftsmanship is projected through the shop’s space, reflecting the philosophy of Issey Miyake’s creations. ” – Tokujin Yoshioka
