For her newest incarnation, Monica Sordo looks at the “dazzlingly incongruous” interior architecture of Cafe Aubette in Strasbourg. Designed by Theo van Does-burg. When Sordo entered the Cafe Aubette, it was exactly as he had described, as if he were entering a painting.

Cubism, minimalism and rich primary colors extend from floor to ceiling. Simplified geometric forms can often be underestimated by their impact; Sordo recognized this and sought a way to translate Doesburg’s abstractionism into his jewels.

Sordo’s thoughts continually returned to the beauty of the Nautilus design. Named for the perfectly symmetrical Nautilus shell, this architectural reference can be seen in structures around the world.

Sordo offers his own interpretation, with the tonal and contrasting set of Nautilus pearls and bracelet. Delicately ventilated around the wrist and ear lobe, these additions to the collection remind us why glamour and elegance should be a key element in the design.

Throughout each collection extends an architectural presence of Monica’s travels, inspired by art deco details and iconic buildings she has fallen in love with. Inspired by the history and symbolism of different places and eras, their pieces exude sophistication with an innovative approach to fashion. Beyond this, Monica pushes the boundaries of design through the arrangement of dynamic angles and the deep dimension through transformable unique pieces.

For the fall of 2017, earring statement, sculptural bracelets and a new take on its iconic choker introduces a new era of Monica Sordo’s jewelry. The brand continues to gain notoriety, this year through collaborations with Cushnie et Ochs.
