Louis Vuitton, for several years, has collaborated with the most influential contemporary artists, such as Takashi Murakami, Richard Prince, Yayoi Kusama, Stephen Sprouse, Cindy Sherman, James Turrell, Olafur Eliasson and Daniel Buren. This close relationship between Louis Vuitton and art was brought to its heyday in 2014 at the inauguration of the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris, an art museum designed by Frank Gehry.
Louis Vuitton unveils a new collection of bags and accessories designed with the artist, Jeff Koons, that will be launched on April 28. Jeff Koons, a major figure in contemporary art, transposes the imagery of his paintings “Gazing Ball”, a series of hand-painted large-scale reproductions of works by old masters, to a collection of articles.
Louis Vuitton has developed new techniques and innovated to reproduce perfection on the works of the cloths of the bags and accessories of the collection. Louis Vuitton and Jeff Koons have reinterpret masterpieces by Leonardo da Vinci, Titian Rubens, Fragonard or Van Gogh have been adapted to iconic Louis Vuitton bags as the Speedy, the Keepall and the Neverfull. They had also reconfigured the famous Louis Vuitton Monogram to bear his initials. This spring’s collaboration represents the power of artistic gesture to connect the present with cultural history of art.
