The french fashion maison Dior and Guggenheim Museun celebrates a new edition of "Guggenheim International Gala" a benefit event where artists are honored and different shows are presented.

For the 4th year consecutive, the event “The 2016 Guggenhein International Gala” (GIG) it’s presented by Dior. A pre-party took place the November 16 hosted by by the Guggenheim’s Young Collectors Council (YCC) featuring a special performance by musician BANKS.

The benefit dinner was held the consecutive day, Thursday November 17. Honoring several artists whose work is represented in the Guggenheim’s collection: Agnes Martin (in memoriam), the subject of a career-spanning retrospective on view at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum from October 7, 2016 to January 11, 2017; Tauba Auerbach; Tacita Dean; Leslie Hewitt; Sarah Morris; Laurie Simmons; and Taryn Simon. Experimental composer and performer John Zorn will premiere “PRAISE,” a piece inspired by the meditative work of Agnes Martin.

Proceeds from the GIG contribute to the Guggenheim Museum’s general operating fund, which advances a range of internationally acclaimed exhibitions and educational programs, supports stewardship of the Guggenheim’s unparalleled collections of modern and contemporary works of art, and provides for the care of the museum’s landmark building.
