Paris Social Diary: How has been your day at work and in your life recently?

RJ King: Well, recently they have been quiter. I think it is a natural progression from when you start modelling. When you start it is crazy. Everyday you are running around and meeting all the clients, but now, it is quieter.

I have got to meet all the clients. The other day I friend of mine talked to me about castings but I think that stage is already done.

I have my base in New York. My friends have basically become my family.

Paris Social Diary: Do you like Social Networks?

RJ King: It is crazy. I use my social network like Instagram but I don’t like to use my social media for work. I like to keep it personal. I think it is important to maintain a sense of personality to your brand.

On facebook, you have your fan page and then you have your own personal page. But that doesn’t exist on Instagram. For example, Gigi Hadid does not have two different Instagram accounts where she could put some funny pictures on.

I like to keep my brand as me. Not as other brand’s brand.

Paris Social Diary: What would be a Good thing and a Bad thing about Fashion industry, for you?

RJ King: The good thing is that you meet amazing people. Some of the most influential people in the industry and to be able to build a relationship with them is great. And these people can do anything to see you succeed.

And the bad thing is the flip side of that. You also meet people that just do not look up for you and that can fight against you.

Paris Social Diary: What is your life engine and how does this affect your everyday at work?

RJ King: My family. My three sisters, my parents and my dog. I know this could be the most cliché answer because if it was not for them I wouldn’t be here.

Also my friends have become my family. You need a base.

Paris Social Diary: What do you think about today’s supermodels, in general?

RJ King: It makes sense. The industry was struggling a bit. It need personalities again as the same way of the trinity: Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington and Naomi Campbell. I think for a while that this was missing. Now there’s this interesting connection between Fashion and Hollywood and technology.

If that can translate in more money for the people envolved, I think I would be great. The industry is constantly taking risks and changing. It’s never settling on. It is never content.

Paris Social Diary: Do you like fashion, personally?

RJ King: Where I grew up, there was not that much of artistic expressions. The midwest is very much about “you become a doctor or a lawyer”. There is self-expression and artistic expression that is lacking and when I moved to New York when I was 18 I was introduced to that.

It felt New York was the place where people can succeed by being truly them. I definetely connect with elements of that self-expression concept.

I love photography. I do really enjoy to be in front of a camera and taking on a role.

It is to convey an emotion in a still image, it take a lot of people to make it work and when it works I think it is something beautiful.

Paris Social Diary: What has been your breakpoint at your career?

RJ King: I think when I shot the cover of Vogue Italy with Linda Evangelista. Just to be on set with a set of industry icons is incredible

Paris Social Diary: What would be your suggestion and recommendation to new generations in any industry in order to succeed?

RJ King: Today, I’m 24. I think it is important to maintain yourself worth and to remember what makes you great and to not be destructed by what other people tell you. You just have to keep in mind who you were before any kind of success.

I always ask to myself: Who was I before I move to New York?

You need to look back and to always remember who you are at your core.

I like Anna Ewers (model). She’s quiet, confident and herself. She’s always like that consistenly. You have to have a consistent personality no matter where you are: at the MET Gala, on a party, on East Village or on set. It is very noble.

Also, of course, I love Hailey Baldwin, she is my family.

Paris Social Diary: What is your biggest dream?

RJ King:My dream is to figure out what I want to do that makes me happy by doing what I love. I haven’t figured it out yet. And I think that the process of figuring this out is quite stressful.

I like the idea of expression that have to cling to just one field.
