PSD: Why did you decide to launch Ukrainian Atelier and why now?
Mariya: I am Based in London and work full-time, but during quarantine, I have travelled to Ukraine and had to stay more than planned. I knew this is a time to dedicate oneself to new beginnings. I had the time to do a research and to understand what online fashion means to me and what I want to bring into it. I think we live in the age of overconsumption and excessiveness, so now is a time to rethink how shopping can be eco-friendlier. My Online Atelier concentrates on timeless wardrobe pieces, and I will contribute to making fashion less “fast”.

PSD: How are you going to make it?
Mariya: Well, the truth is we will always need new clothes! I care about the high-quality of the clothes, that, for me, creates the durability of the wardrobe. I aim to promote the brands that prioritise natural materials and maximise ethical approach during manufacturing.
PSD: Being Ukrainian, how can you describe the fashion scene in your home-country?
Mariya: I am proud of Ukrainian fashion scene and even more proud of people that manufacture natural production. They highlight our national heritage, such as high-quality local materials and unique style.

PSD: So, quality and heritage are important, what else makes Ukrainian Atelier different?
Mariya: I hope when people are coming across my store, they are attracted by a very fair ratio of luxury quality/cost. And it is also about exclusivity, some styles that you will not be able to find anywhere else.

PSD: What is your fashion philosophy?
Mariya: Ever since I was a small girl, I always loved styling and discovering new names, new styles. My Atelier reflects my approach to dressing, and that is effortless and “trendless” as I call it. I believe in individuality, and I think it should be fun to create your everyday uniform.

PSD: What does Ukrainian Atelier suggest for this summer season?
Mariya: At this point, I curate just one brand – It is my brand of outerwear and accessories made of 100% natural Merino. Merino is one of the most comfortable and sustainable fabrics to wear. It is biodegradable; it controls moisture and regulates temperature. And these are only a few reasons why my fabulous Merino Vests work for any season, including a rainy British summer.
PSD:What can we expect in the future from Ukrainian Atelier?
Mariya: I did plan to add more brands and clothing ranges; however, at this point, I decided to dedicate myself to pushing and developing the Merino Line. The other clothing categories might follow in the future -stay tuned!
