TEAM PARIS SOCIAL DIARY: What moves you, what is your inspiration?

RAFFAELLA CAMPEGGI: I get inspired by everything that happens  around me , art exhibits, art book, photography books. Then  as a fashion editor , I have to look at the fashion shows and what is happening in style around the world, from an fashion executive point of view. My inspiration remains in classic photography which is my real passion , and also I collect photography books.

PSD: How does the concept of a shooting starts?

RC: My creative process starts with :
– Choosing an interesting photographer with a real universe, not necessarily from the fashion world.
– Finding an idea together and then letting him use his photography as a communication vehicle to transmit his message nowadays.
–  We create looks from the current season, and we start putting together the fashion series every issue.

PSD: What is you universe and your style?

RC: I am raw , and real, I get inspired from photography more than fashion. I don’t like photoshop, I don’t like glossy, I am pretty real .

PSD: What do you love from  ITALIAN STYLE?

RC: I love to start from the point of view of the 20th century italian cinema, love Fellini and Bertolucci, they had great photography, neorealist. They had a very strong way to see life and style, it was very strong and realistic. I look for the same things. What I don’t like, is the redundant glossy beauty of the obvious advertising we see everywhere.

PSD: Which is the secret for the ultimate editorial work?

RC:  The art direction is the base, it’s like a baking a cake, you need to have all the great ingredients to make it work. Also, the communication needs to be fluid and open , the first thing. Finally, the right choice pop photographer depending the time and the season.

 PSD: What is trending?

RC: According to me , there is no trend, it doesn’t exist. But in revenge, you have a timeless style which is always valid , a personal style. I am not keen of all the pseudo businesses that are happening around the fashion world, it is just unreal and fake. Fashion  has lost the reality of their craft, and it kill the energy of fashion photography and their poetic side. the poetic side is not dead , but is gone, lost, and we have to find it again. The best expression of oneself is an ART exhibition which could be personal an original. All the bloggers and influencers had killed the magic of fashion. Although , the beauty of a timeless picture consists on how unique and poetic could be.

PSD: The fashion business has changed a lot. How does that affect in your work?

RC: The globalization in the fashion world has created a poor identity in every brand  which nowadays are depending by the those people who altered the course of an organic development of a fashion house.

PSD: How do you create your looks?

RC: First, I have to know the history of classic photography, a strong culture of image and a very strong style. Then, my job is go against the influencers, I don’t dress my subjects on total looks from a show, I create a look depending our theme.

PSD: Which is your favourite FW 17/18 Collection?

RC: The most emotional DRIES VAN NOTEN, he was able to reunite several faces , iconic faces from the nineties, the belgium faces. JACQUEMUS, wonderful aesthetic. An DEMEULEMEESTER, light and photogenic. Finally, RICK OWENS volume, and exasperation of content, there is a message.

 PSD: Compte Instagram

RC: It is my work utensil, it works nowadays. It is basic for someone working in the industry of IMAGE. Helps you to find new photographers, new agencies, everything changes faster nowadays, everything goes so quick as instagram. There is no competitions of who’s the best profile, there is so many with interesting content.

 PSD: Milano Bar Basso

RC: It is a MILANO old school
COOKIE , a champagnerie
ARLATTI restaurant

PSD: Recommend us a place you love  in Milano, and a place you love in Paris , for a drink, for a meal, for a cocktail:

 RC: In Paris
LE FUMOIR a PARIS, love it. CAFE DE LA POSTE, easy for the rendez vous. Paris is full of these places full of charm.

PSD: What is your favourite word in Italian?

RC: I can’t think about my favourite word. In french it is CHAMPAGNERIE
