How can Art bring East to West?

‘‘Bentu’’ is a term that makes reference to The native soil, a concept that was brought up by the Fondation Louis Vuitton in collaboration with the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing, exhibited from January 27 until May 2, 2016.

Bentu: Chinese Artists in a Time of Turbulence and Transformation’’ represents the utopic idea of harmony between nature and urban development in this fast pulse of life.

Through the Parisian eyes, the exhibition brings twelve artists from different generations based in mainland China, their contemporary conceptual work interprets their perspective of the complexities of a society that is constantly changing.

The presence of diverse materials in the artwork is remarkable, the artists express their vision with a variety of techniques and media, sculptures and paintings. Most notably, monumental works like Ai Weiwei’s ‘‘Tree’’, Zhang Huan’s sculpture ‘‘The head ofBuddha’’ and the very symptomatic artworks of Huang Yong Ping, with a mix between East and West references.

The exhibition will extend to a programme of multidisciplinary events, combining performance, cinema, poetry, music and interviews.
